Arabic Verbs That Must Be Used with Prepositions

One of the biggest mistakes Arabic learners make is using a verb correctly… but building the sentence incorrectly.

Why?

Because in Arabic, many verbs must be followed by a specific preposition.
Without that preposition, the sentence becomes unnatural, incorrect, or changes meaning completely.

This is where many intermediate and even advanced learners struggle.

In this lesson, you will learn the most important Arabic verbs that always come with a preposition.

Think of the verb and the preposition as one unit you must memorize together.

Why This Is Very Important for Learners

Many students translate directly from English, which leads to sentences that sound strange in Arabic.

For example:

  • ❌ يحتاج مساعدة
  • ❌ يشعر البرد
  • ❌ نجح الامتحان
  • ❌ يبحث عمل

These mistakes immediately show that the speaker is thinking in English, not Arabic.

The Golden Rule

Memorize the verb with its preposition as if they are one word:

  • يحتاج إلى
  • يشعر بـ
  • نجح في
  • يبحث عن
  • يعتمد على

Not the verb alone.
